Fellow Classmates!
 
The Alumni Association for Rolla High School (of which we are all a part) started a project to cover the football field at Lions Memorial Stadium with synthetic turf awhile back.  At that time, I joined the committee in order to help make this happen.  We are trying to raise money to get this project rolling, and we need about $400,000 to start, and about $1 M total (yeah, that’s a million $$….which will do the football field and the practice field too!).  The attached brochure has all the pertinent information, but I will direct your attention to the fact that this will benefit not only the football team, but the entire school system and community.  The marching band will benefit greatly as well as the PE classes, and we will be able to host some events (competitions, district  games, etc.) that we currently cannot.  I won’t repeat what’s in the brochure, but please read it thoroughly so you can understand the entire impact it would have on our school system and community.  Additionally, we are now the only school district in our conference without a turf field.  Lastly, the new turf field is intended to be named “Alumni Field.”
 
I would like to put forth a challenge to us as a class.  If we could raise $25,000 among our class alone, and we challenge the other classes from 1960-2000 to do the same, that would raise about $1,000,000.  WOW!  In order to do that, I am reaching out to all of you who can afford to do so, to commit to a donation plan, $100 a year for 5 years.  The attached pledge card form explains how that will work.  But it is basically a commitment between you and the Rolla School District to commit to the donation plan over 5 years.  If we get just 50 of us to commit to this plan, that would raise the $25,000.
 
I know that for many of you this may not be possible, so I would ask that you consider a single donation of any amount.  Every little bit helps.  And both the single donation and the donation plan are tax deductible as a charitable contribution!
 
NOTE on contributions, just to be clear.  The form and the brochure indicate that you can donate online if you go to
www.alumnifield.com.  If you are making a single, one-time donation, you can certainly do this using a credit/bank card.  However, if you are going to sign up for the 5-year donation plan (of any amount), you will need to print off the form, sign it, and either mail it back in to the address listed, scan it and e-mail it to Kelly Hinshaw at KHinshaw@rolla.k12.mo.us, or fax it to the number listed, as this then becomes a contract between you and Rolla School District.  Lastly, In order to keep track of our class donations, I’m asking that if you want to make a donation, either through the donation plan or a single donation, mailed in or on the website, to please let me know….the type and amount please!  I want to keep track of our donations!   (My contact info is below.)
 
To answer a question I’m sure many of you have, yes, we are reaching out to corporate sponsors in the area too…banks, large businesses (Lowes, Kohls, Walmart, etc.), small business (Subway, Brewer Science, MO-Sci, etc) community organizations, etc.  We already have commitments from several local businesses, e.g. Subway who has pledged $25,000 over 5 years, and Mo Sci Corporation who has pledged $15,000 ($3,000 over 5 years), along with several other businesses that have signed on for $15,000 donations or advertising banners over 5 years.
 
I appreciate all of you taking the time to read through this….I think it is an excellent project for the RHS Alumni Association to tackle for the kids and community!  So who’s in?
 
PS:  FOR BUSINESS OWNERS!  The committee has also just put in to place an “advertising donation plan!”  This would be for anyone who has a business that they would like to advertise on a 4’ X 8’ sign to be placed on the inside of the fence-line around the stadium!  We have about 32 slots available and they are going fast!  The cost is for a donation of $15,000 over 5 years, $3,000 a year.  (You obviously can give more if you want.)  It can be billed monthly ($250 per month) if you desire.  (Note however that this is a different kind of “donation,” you are buying a “service” and therefore the tax deduction rules are different.)  If you desire to do this, there is another form that I can send that you need to complete.  Let me know if you want to go this route!
